Preliminary assessment of Vietnam international merchandise trade performance in the first 9 months of 2022

Highlights 1. According to trade statistics of Vietnam Customs, in September 2022, a 11.8% downwards in total external merchandise turnover of Vietnam was recorded as compared to the result of August 2022. Exports went down 14.6 %, to USD 29.82 billion and imports decreased 8.6%, to USD 28.39 billion in terms of month-on- month basis. As a result, there was a USD 1.43 billion surplus in Vietnam’s trade balance in this month.

The Vietnam Customs Statistics announced that in the first half (01-15/9/2022) of September-2022, Vietnam’s total exports of US dollars 12.75 billion and imports of US dollars 13.59 billion resulted in a trade deficit of nearly US dollars 845 million. Accordingly, the total value of export and import turnover of Vietnam in the first half of September was US dollars 26.34 billion, down by 25.7% as compared to the second half of August-2022.

Highlights 1. According to trade statistics of Vietnam Customs, in August 2022, a 7.9% upwards in total external merchandise turnover of Vietnam was recorded as compared to the result of July 2022. Exports went up 14.1 %, to USD 34.92 billion and imports increased 1.7%, to USD 31.06 billion in terms of month-on- month basis. As a result, there was a USD 3.86 billion surplus in Vietnam’s trade balance in this month.

The Vietnam Customs Statistics announced that in the second half (16-31/8/2022) of August-2022, Vietnam’s total exports of US dollars 19.7 billion and imports of US dollars 15.73 billion resulted in a trade surplus of US dollars 3.97 billion. Accordingly, the total value of export and import turnover of Vietnam in the second half of August was US dollars 35.42 billion, up by 16.6% as compared to the first half of August-2022.

Accordingly, the total value of export and import turnover of Vietnam in the first half of August was US dollars 30.37 billion, down by 0.1% as compared to the second half of July-2022.

Accordingly, the total value of export and import turnover of Vietnam in the second half of June was over US dollars 33.36 billion, up by 5.4% as compared to the first half of June-2022. Furthermore, in the first 6 months of 2022, Vietnam was in trade surplus of USD 446 million.

Exports went down 7.2 %, to USD 30.92 billion and imports increased 0.5 %, to USD 32.61 billion in terms of month-on- month basis. As a result, there was a USD 1.69 billion deficit in Vietnam’s trade balance in this month.
