2,500 packs of smuggled cigarettes seized by Dong Thap Customs

2,500 packs of smuggled cigarettes and the car were seized by ThuongPhuoc Customs Branch.

ThuongPhuoc Border Gate Customs Branch and the Border Station at ThuongPhuoc International Border Gate detected a car suspected of carrying smuggled goods with thelicenseplate 66A-137.72 on the way to ThuongPhuoc Border Gate along Street ĐT 841 to the centre of Hong Ngu district.

Competent forces requested to inspect the car and detected 2,500 packs of foreign cigarettes inmany cartons. Notably, 10 car license plates were hidden in the car.

At the headquarters of ThuongPhuoc Border Gate Customs Branch, driver Pham Tan Dat, aged 38, residing in Dong Thap province, said he was the car’s owner and bought all the cigarettes from a woman named Phuong at the Thuong Phuoc Border Gate Market area, and transported them to Lai Vung district, Dong Thap province to sell for profit.

He said he brought 10 car license plates to use when necessary, but he has not used them yet.
