70kg of dried leaves suspected as Khat leaves detected in a shipment

On February 27, 2017, at the warehouse of the Noibai Cargo Terminal Service (NCTS), implementing the leaders’ direction of the General Department of Viet Nam Customs, and relating to the inspection requirement of the delegation of Government Inspectorate of Vietnam for shipments in the Noi Bai International airport, the Anti-smuggling and Investigation Department-under the General Department of Vietnam Customs (the Northern Anti-Smuggling Enforcement Unit (Unit 1), and the Information Collection and Analysis Division (Division 2; and the Online Customs Supervision Division (Division 3) chaired and collaborated with the Hanoi Customs Department (the Customs Enforcement Team and Noi Bai International Airport Customs Branch) under the supervision of the delegation of the Government Inspectorate of Vietnam to inspect the shipment under the Bill of lading transporting from Kenya to Noibai International Airport on February 27, 2017.

Test results, the functional forces detected the consignment under Bill of lading No. 7062919451 including two carton boxes wrapped in plastic, inside each carton were 18 blue plastic bags of dried leaves (suspected as Khat leaves used to manufacture crystal meth), with a total weight of 68.4 kg.

Currently, the functional forces have taken samples for verification and continued to clearly investigate the case to handle in accordance with the provisions of the law.
