VCN – In addition to performing advisory tasks, customs officials of the anti-drugs enforcement unit at Quang Ninh Customs also directly solved many big drug-related cases.

Talking with reporters from Customs News, the leader of the Anti-Drug Enforcement Team Dau Hung Duong said that, through monitoring drug-related cases, the suspects participating in the transport of drugs from abroad across Quang Ninh border area to inland mainly resided outside the province. Through the process of arrest, the Anti-Drug Enforcement Team has solved many new tricks of these suspects.

In order to transport heroin and synthetic drugs, those suspects often hide drugs in goods and luggage in order to send them by passenger car. The suspects mainly use "junk" sims for transacting, so the detection and arrest of competent forces faced difficulty in investigating and verifying. Not only that, the leading group also used the forms of communication via social networks to operate drug trafficking and transportation lines and often changed the delivery location in order to distract the investigation of competent forces.

In order to successfully solve these specialized cases, the customs officials of the Anti-drug Enforcement Team took several months of hard work to set up monitoring of the case to grasp all the operation rules of the suspects.

For example, in April 2018, in the area of Long Bien District, Hanoi, the Anti-drug Enforcement Team coordinated with the Police Investigation Team on drug-related crime, the Ha Dong District Police (Hanoi City) and Van Phuc Ward Police (Ha Dong District) to catch Pham Anh Tuan (living in Long Bien District, Hanoi) committing illegal acts of transporting narcotics. The competent force seized a sack of bamboo shoots. Also, the competent force detected two white bags of flour (size 4.5x2x15cm) which were put inside bamboo shoots, wrapped with blue plastic, and 25 plastic bags (size 7 x 8.5cm) containing 4,996 tablets. Those items were concealed inside the trunk of a car.

In the QN419 case, the Specialized Committee of the Anti-drug Enforcement Unit elaborated specific plans and determined not to miss out on any drug-related crimes, especially those leading the lines. After following-up, the Specialized Committee identified that the leader was very dangerous and reckless, he often carrying guns for self-defense. When transporting drugs, the suspect often hired people to go ahead to search for directions, when detecting suspicious signs, he would escape immediately.

All options were outlined for arresting the leader. In October 2019, at the area of Bach Dang Bridge Toll Station in Lien Vi Ward, Quang Yen Town, Quang Ninh Province, the Anti-drug Enforcement Team chaired and coordinated with the Police Investigation Team on drug-related crime, Quang Ninh province police; traffic control patrol team, Department of Road and Rail Traffic Police (Ministry of Public Security) caught Nguyen Van Luan (born in 1989, from Uong Bi City, Quang Ninh Province) and seized 5kg of ketamine, one gun and six bullets.

Those were just a few of the cases in the series of achievements of the unit. In order to have this series of achievements, over the years, customs officials and employees in the Team have overcome difficulties and even faced danger to successfully complete the task. With these achievements, the Anti-drug Enforcement Team (Quang Ninh Customs Department) was honored to receive the Third-class Victory Medal given by the President and many certificates of merit from the Prime Minister, committees and sectors.

Recognizing the efforts of customs officials and employees of the whole team, Director of Quang Ninh Customs Department Nguyen Van Nghien said that the leaders of Quang Ninh Customs Department highly appreciated the responsibilities of customs officials and employees when they were assigned the task of drug prevention and combat. Despite the extreme difficulties and dangerous operating conditions, with a high sense of responsibility, customs officials and employees in the team organized to solve many major cases, especially ensuring the safety of forces.

“With the spirit and responsibilities of customs officials and employees, the leaders of Quang Ninh Customs Department always encourage and support so that the whole team was assured to perform their work, getting better and more professional through solving each case," Director Nguyen Van Nghien affirmed.
