VCN - On November 21, the Customs Branch managing import-export goods outside the industrial park under Binh Duong Customs Department said that the branch had made a record of administrative violations and seized an imported shipment of rice cookers in violation of regulations on product origin.

The shipment consisted of 3,472 Toshiba rice cookers, type 1 litreand 1.8 litre, new 100 percent, made in China, completely assembled, worth more thanVND 2.1 billion. The import declaration was opened by M Company Limited at Vietnam – Singapore Industrial Park Customs Branch

According to the initial declaration, the rice cookers were completely assembled (lacking domestic supplies, including power cord, label), new 100 percent, made in China and were imported in the customs regime of imports for production materials business, subject to atax rate of zero percent. The declaration was automatically classified into the yellow channel system.

However, implementing risk management and combating origin fraud according to Official Letter 5189 / TCHQ dated August 13, 2019 of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam - Singapore Industrial Park Customs Branch conducted a physical inspection ofthe shipment

The Customs Branch detected the packages of goods were printed with Vietnamese words: “Made in Vietnam, licensed by Toshiba Group”. Manufacturer’s address: 40 VSIP, Road 6, Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park, Thuan An, Binh Duong, liability by Toshiba Vietnam Consumer Products Co., Ltd, No. 12, Street 15, Quarter 4, LinhTrung, Thu Duc, Ho Chi Minh city, manufacturing year: 2019”

At the same time, the package shows bar code 893 (Vietnam), enclosed with the instruction manual in Vietnamese and the rice cooker was enclosed with a warning stamp in Vietnamese.

It was realized the origin of the above shipment is different from the declaration, the Customs Branch made a record of administrative violations and seized the shipment for further investigation.
