Close up the shipment of Converse shoes “made in USA” originating from China

In the afternoon (14/8), Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh – Vice Chairman of Hai Phong city People’s Committee, Head of Steering Committee 389 Hai Phong came to the scene (Nam Hai Dinh Vu port – Hai Phong) in order to praise and award the achievement in detecting, seizing counterfeit goods inside transit goods of Hai Phong Customs Department.

The above shipment included 6 containers which were transported to Nam Hai Dinh Vu port in the early of July 2017. According to the schedule, those containers were transit from China through Hai Phong port and expected to be transported to Cha Lo border gate in Quang Binh province to the destination point in Vientiane (Laos).

Goods were declared as: Auto parts, motorbikes, shoes, lamps, payment counters, steel pipes, aluminum materials, furniture, fans, and underwear.

The inspection results of Hai Phong Customs Enforcement Unit and Hai Phong port area 3 Customs Branch (in the early of August, 2017) showed that the actual goods are: shoes labeled Converse brand, automobile and motorbikes spare parts, Bose speakers, electric fans, compact lights, electric tape, underwear, plastic suitcases, ...

Moreover, through preliminary tests, it showed that the number of shoe items was up to thousands of pairs of shoes, and on the Converse shoes labeled "Made in USA".

However, in the written document respond to customs authority, Nike Vietnam Co., Ltd. (owner of Converse brand) confirmed that the product with the word Converse which seized by Hai Phong Customs was fake; it did not manufacture by Converse or licensed for production, distribution on the market. Currently, Hai Phong Customs has continued to inspect and investigate the above containers.

Thus, implementing the specialized control of transit goods, Hai Phong Customs has discovered 10 cargo containers containing thousands of shoes originated from China and faked up Converse brand.
