In the press conference about the situation of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit organized by the Permanent Office of National Steering Committee 389, Colonel Do Ngoc Toan, Deputy Director of the Anti-drugs and criminals Department (High Command of Border Guard) said that the situation of smuggling petroleum on the sea was still complicated.
In 2016, Border forces discovered and seized more than 10 million liters of illegal petrol. Remarkably, recently, in the sea area of Phu Yen, Border Guard forces discovered and seized over 5 million liters of oil smuggled by a foreign ship. The authorities confiscated and sold all these goods, and collected 61 billion VND to the State budget.
According to Colonel Do Ngoc Toan, there are two main causes of the problem of petroleum smuggling at sea, which are still complicated because of the difference in petrol prices in the country and other countries in the region.
Another reason is that some fishermen when organizing offshore fishing did not carry enough fuel. So to serve for fishing activity in a period, they need a supply of smuggled fuel on the sea.
