Customs seized 309kg suspected ivory via air

VCN - The Anti-Smuggling Enforcement Unit in the North (team 1 – Anti-smuggling Department, General Department of Customs) has seized 309 kg of ivory which was transported by air.

Ivory was seized by Customs force

According to the Anti-Smuggling Enforcement Unit in the North, on 1^st October, 2016 implementing Decision No.029/ QĐ-DD1 on 30-9-2016, the Unit has collaborated with Noi Bai International Airport Customs Branch, Customs Enforcement Unit (Hanoi Customs Department) to examine a suspected shipment with Bill of lading number: 60712573094.

The shipment was transported on an aircraft of Etihad Airways departed from Lagos, Nigeria to Noi Bai International Airport in 29^th September 2016. After physical inspectation, Customs forces detected and seized 309kg of ivory. Currently, the Customs force has coordinated with other agencies to take samples for testing, in order to serve for the inspection. Beside that, in April, the IPR Protection Enforcement Unit (team 4), Anti-smuggling Department also detected and seized 105kg of ivory transported by air.
