The summit will take place in the Vietnamese capital from February 27-28, following the first held in Singapore last June during which the two countries committed to establishing a relationship for peace and prosperity as an effort to build long term peace on the Korean Peninsula.
With its experience in holding international events such as the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in the central city of Da Nang in 2017 and the World Economic Forum on ASEAN in Hanoi in 2018, Vietnam’s hosting of the second DPRK-USA Summit affirms its increasing position as well as its responsible contribution to international issues.
It will also confirm the country’s determination to implement a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation and development; persification and multilateralisation of international relations; active international integration; and being a friend, trusted partner and responsible member of the international community.
For Hanoi, the summit takes place at the time when the city is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its recognition as the City for Peace by UNESCO.
To make good preparations for the event, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has directed ministries, sectors and Hanoi to work with relevant parties to organise the summit successfully to help people from participating countries feel Vietnam’s friendliness and hospitality, and make Vietnamese people understand the event’s significance as well as the country’s international role and prestige.
