Volunteers will assist foreign delegates to APEC meetings in Da Nang

For the past 2 months, Dang Linh Chi, a student at Da Nang Economics University, has attended extra classes in English, protocol, and communication skills for volunteers who will serve on the Reception Sub-committee of APEC Week 2017.

Chi said “I’m very eager for the APEC events to begin. I’ve prepared for months. I’m aware of my responsibility to promote Da Nang’s image to visitors. Since passing the interview, I have read many newspapers stories about APEC events.”

Da Nang city, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the APEC National Secretariat, and several Embassies in Vietnam, has organized classes in foreign languages, social etiquette, national affairs, and international integration for leaders, and state employees to serve APEC activities.

Le Hoang Phuc of Da Nang’s Department of Home Affairs, said local citizens are prepared to make a good impression on APEC delegates. “APEC week will offer investment, economic, and technical cooperation opportunities for Da Nang. State employees represent a dynamic, friendly administration. We feel the pressure as well as the pride of hosting the event.”

Volunteers and communicators should be fluent in a foreign language such as English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or Spanish. They have been studying APEC economics, APEC history, and APEC Vietnam 2017.

Lam Quang Minh, Director of Da Nang’s Department of External Affairs, said “The volunteers have assisted advance teams of APEC delegates. The Foreign Ministry really appreciates their professionalism and English skills.”

Everything is now in place for APEC Week in Da Nang from November 6. Volunteers are prepared to convey to our foreign friends an image of friendly Vietnamese people and an ideal country for investment.
