Excluding tax, the average price of a car imported from China is VND1 billion/unit

VCN - The average value of CBU cars imported from China is nearly VND1 billion/unit (excluding tax), which is the highest price among the top three leading markets.

According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in June 2022, the number of CBU cars of all kinds imported to Vietnam was 12,901 units, decreasing by 7.2% compared to the previous month.

Generally, in the first six months of the year, the number of imported CBU cars of all kinds is 63,731 units, a decrease of 21.4%, corresponding to a decrease of 17,352 units over the same period last year.

CBU cars of all kinds imported to Vietnam are mainly cars with 9 seats or less with 49,050 units, declining by 9.3%, corresponding to a decrease of 5,004 units.

Followed by trucks with 8,988 units, reducing by 53%, equaling to a decrease of 10,138 units; other cars were 5,586 units, down 27.9%, corresponding to a decrease of 2,161 units over the same period in 2021. In particular, for cars with over 9 seats, Vietnam only imported 107 units in six months.

In terms of the market, CBU cars of all kinds imported to Vietnam mainly originate from Thailand, Indonesia and China.

Accordingly, imports from Thailand were 27,427 units, with a turnover of US$553 million, decreasing by 32.2% in volume, reducing by about 27% in turnover compared to the same period in 2021.

Imports from Indonesia is 20,284 units with a turnover is US$285.53 million, reducing by 12.1% in volume, only slightly declining by US$1.5 million in turnover compared to the same period in 2021.

Imports from China is 10,892 units with a turnover of US$443.4 million, decreasing by nearly 5% in volume, but increasing in turnover by 4.4% compared to the same period last year.

Regarding the average value of the three major markets, cars imported from China have the highest price of US$40,710 (about VND950 million/unit) excluding tax. While from Thailand is US$20,163/unit; from Indonesia is US$14,077/unit.

CBU cars imported from China are mainly trucks and specialized vehicles, so the average value is higher than the other two markets in Southeast Asia (with the main line of cars with 9 seats or less).
