Exporting to USA reaches nearly $US 31 billion

According to the latest preliminary statistics of the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in 9/2017, Vietnam's total export turnover exporting to the US reached $US 3.62 billion, bringing the total export turnover in September up to nearly $US 31 billion, increased by 9.4% over the same period last year. The United States continues to be Vietnam's largest export market and the largest market of trade surplus.

By the end of September, Vietnam has eight commodity groups with the export turnover of exporting to US reached over $US 1 billion. Leading is textiles with export turnover reached $US 1.1 billion in September, raise the export turnover in September up to $US 9.25 billion, increased by 9.5% over the same period and accounting for nearly 30% of total export value in exporting to US. The United States is also the largest importer of Vietnamese textiles. In 2016, the export turnover of this commodity reached $US 11.45 billion, increased by 4.6% compared to the year of 2015, accounting for 48% of the total export turnover of textile and garment of the whole country.

In the second place is all kinds of footwear. This group reached $US 406 million in September, raise the export turnover in 9 months to $US 3.76 billion, increasing by 13.7% compared to the same period of last year and accounting for 12% of the total value of Vietnamese exports to US.

Telephone and components are in the third place with the turnover reached $US 341 million in September, raise the export value in 9 months up to $US 2.89 billion, declined by 7.4% over the same period last year.

According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in 2016, Vietnam's total export turnover exporting to US market reached $US 38.45 billion, increased by 14.9% over the year of 2015 and accounted for 21.8% of the total value of exported goods of the country. However, this figure is very modest compared to the total import value of US.

According to the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), in 2016, the total import value of US goods from countries and territories is $US 2,450 billion. Thus, the value of imported goods from Vietnam accounts for only a very small fraction, less than 2% of total US’s import turnover.
