Foreign experts attribute Vietnamese success to correct decisions and people"s strength
Prof. Huang Xingqiu, deputy head of the Institute of Vietnamese Studies at Guang Xi Pedagogy University in China |
This is the view held by Prof. Huang Xingqiu, deputy head of the Institute of Vietnamese Studies at Quang Xi Pedagogy University in China, as stated ahead of the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) during an exclusive interview granted to a VOV correspondent based in Beijing.
Prof. Huang Xingqiu, a prestigious expert on both Vietnam and ASEAN, highly appreciated the various economic achievement of the nation over the past five years. In particular, whilst the global economy was severely affected by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic last year, the country managed to meet its dual target by recording GDP growth of 2.91% whilst also bringing the epidemic situation under control.
According to the scholar, these results were not easy to obtain and are therefore worthy of recognition. Moving forward, there is a need to draw experience from this period in order to provide a lesson for future generations.
“Over the past years, Vietnam's economic growth has been attributable to many factors, both the basis of population income, and the promotion of globalisation and technological progress. More than that, it is thanks to the correct solutions of the Party and Government of Vietnam, it has ensured a stable political environment, a relatively favourable business environment, thereby creating optimal conditions for economic development. A large number of Vietnamese people have brought into play their strength widely in national construction with high consensus so success is inevitable,” he said.
With regards to the Vietnamese fight to stamp out corruption, he said that the country has recorded several achievements that are recognised and applauded by the entire world. With high-ranking officials being put on trial, this offers an indication of the willingness to tackle corruption locally.
Despite some success, Prof. Cau believes that the fight remains tough and there is still a long way to go as corrupt acts have yet to be fully eradicated. As space for self-seeking of power still exists, mechanisms and regulations must be tightened.
In terms of the ongoing 13th National Congress of the CPV, the scholar said that compared with previous terms, this Congress has done a good job with its personnel plan. Ranging from the building and publication of personnel standards, to discussions and voting at sessions of the Party Central Committee, all have achieved good results, he noted.
In addition, the academic also expressed his belief that the newly-elected leadership of the CPV will be made up of both virtuous and talented people, thereby contributing to the country’s future stability and development.

Meanwhile, Palestinian Ambassador to Vietnam Saadi Salama, one of the invited guests present at the opening ceremony session of the Congress, expressed his delight at the various achievements and successes recorded by the nation in recent years.
Ambassador Salama stated his belief that the CPV and the 13th Party Congress will outline policies aimed at achieving new milestones in the causes of national development and construction, in addition to the country expanding relations with partners globally.
“Vietnam is a truly independent nation. The country is going ahead with its path of development, and is promoting mutually beneficial relationships to contribute to security and peace in the world," the Palestinian diplomat said.
The Ambassador also highlighted the nation’s competent policies and successes, especially with regard to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The various achievements in combating the pandemic can also be attributed to the contributions made by Vietnamese people in complying with strict epidemic prevention regulations. Most notably, the Party and Government’s policies have been effectively carried out, resulting in GDP growth of 2.91% in 2020, he added.
