Foreign leaders" visits to Vietnam in 2019

Right after the DPRK-USA Summit, DPRK Chairman Kim Jong-un pays a state official visit to Vietnam from March 1-2 at the invitation of the Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong. Kim is also the first DPRK leader who has visited Vietnam after 55 years. The visit sets a historic milestone in relations between the two countries and creates opportunities for both nations to step up bilateral ties and exchange views on issues of common concern.

Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei pays a State-level visit to Vietnam from March 26-28 at the invitation of President Nguyen Phu Trong. The visit aims to enhance the bilateral friendship and foster multilateral cooperation towards celebrations for the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties coming up in 2022. During the visit, the two sides issue a joint statement on the establishment of the Vietnam-Brunei comprehensive partnership.

Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte pays an official visit to Vietnam on April 9 at the invitation of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

During the visit, both nations issue a joint statement, agreeing on the importance of bilateral cooperation and elevation of Vietnam-Netherlands relations to comprehensive partnership. Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte attends the third High-Level Dialogue on Italy-ASEAN Economic Relations in Hanoi and makes an official visit to Vietnam from June 5-6 at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

The visits is designed to contribute to promoting the relationship between the two countries effectively and practically.

Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad pays an official visit to Vietnam from August 26-28 at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc. Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and his wife lead the Lao Government’s high-ranking delegation to pay an official visit to Vietnam from October 1-3 at the invitation of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

The visits takes place in the context when Vietnam and Laos have enjoyed a traditional friendship, special solidarity and thriving partnership in all aspects.

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen pay an official visit to Vietnam from October 4-5 at the invitation of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc. The two PMs inspect the guards of honour.

The visit takes place amidst the fruitful development of relations between Vietnam and Cambodia. The trip aims to reinforce economic, trade and investment ties, as well as collaboration in border affairs and transport between the two countries.
