Group of drug traffickers arrested in An Giang province
|
The arrested drug traffickers were later identified as eight Vietnamese nationals residing in the localities of An Giang and Can Tho, along with a Cambodian national residing in Kandal province of the neighbouring country.
They were caught red-handed during the morning of June 14 by border guards in An Giang as they were in the middle of illegally transporting 30kg of crystal meth along with approximately 10,000 ecstasy pills.
According to their initial testimony, the drug traffickers admitted that all of the drugs had been transported from Cambodia into Vietnam through the An Giang border area. Once in the nation, the haul was then taken to Ho Chi Minh City in order to be sold on.
After hearing the testimonies from the traffickers, police forces in Ho Chi Minh City moved to simultaneously conduct an emergency search of two locations in Binh Chanh and Tan Phu districts in the early hours of June 15.
Following the raids, police were able to successfully apprehend three more traffickers and confiscated 1kg of crystal meth, in addition to 100 ecstasy pills.
At present, the case remains under further investigation.
