VCN – A 37-year-old female passenger with Vietnam nationality lives in Binh Thuan province has been arrested at the airport after taking a flight from Brazil to HCM City by Customs authority due to illegal transport cocaine.

On 8/8, Tan Son Nhat International Airport Customs Branch – HCM City Customs Department coordinated with Anti-smuggling and Investigation Department – General Department of Vietnam Customs, Drug Enforcement Unit – HCM City Customs Department, Police Department of drug investigation (C47) – Ministry of Public Security and Drug investigation Police Division (PC47) – HCM City Police to inspect and detect cocaine inside hand luggage of female passenger.

The number of cocaine was divided into 4 packs, hidden in CDs, and then put on clothing, cosmetics, shoes and other personal belongings in order to escape competent authority’s eyes.

According to the initial testimony, female passengers claimed that she is in a relationship with a Nigerian through the social network Meetme and was given money to buy air tickets and invited to Brazil for visiting. When she prepared to go home, this man asked her to bring gifts to his family in HCM city. However, when she arrived at Tan Son Nhat airport, Customs authorities detected the above narcotics and seized it.

Currently, Tan Son Nhat Airport Customs has handed over the subject and exhibits to PC47 for further investigation. According to Article 250 of the Vietnam Penal Code, crimes of illegal transport cocaine weighing 100 grams or more are subject to receive a 20-year prison sentence, life imprisonment or death sentence.

In the last five years, Tan Son Nhat International Airport Customs Branch has detected and arrested 52 suspects (including 32 women in that 19 people are Vietnamese nationals and 13 foreigners) on charges of illegal transport narcotics. Most of the offenders are seduced, deceived, manipulated by various tricks in order to transport narcotics for lines that ringleader is African-originated.

This case is a warning for women who are easily enticed by drug dealers via tricks like make a friend through an online website, chat, find a friend or know each other by chance then love, suggesting business cooperation for transport illicit narcotics.
