Ho Chi Minh City: Focusing on smuggled goods inspection from the gate to the market

Accordingly, before, during and after Tet, HCM City will enhance inspections to detect and promptly handle acts of containing, transporting and trading of illegal products, smuggled importation; manufacturing, importing, selling fake goods, substandard products; goods do not guarantee of food safety and violations in the areas of intellectual property, quality, metrology, trademarks, trade fraud, and price. HCM City will also report the market situation if any signs of speculation, goods hoarding, excessive price increases, and false information spreading. Also, strengthen the dissemination of law to organizations and individuals who are engaging in commercial and industry activities locally. Mobilize the general public to denounce violators who transported, trafficked of prohibited, smuggled and counterfeit goods.

Smuggled cigarettes will be inspected and prevented on provincial roads, national highways, and waterways that linking Long An, TayNinh into the city. Also inspect tobacco retailing activities in stores, vendor points of sale, residential areas and markets. Collaborate with other sectors, districts and wards to strengthen the inspection of selling smuggled cigarettes on the street: Hoc Lac (District 5), Tran Quoc Toan (District 3) and Truong Chinh (Tan Phu District).

Besides, the major items for inspection include: beer, wine, milk, sugar, dried foods, industrial prepackaged food, functional foods, cosmetics, chemicals, mobile phones, electronics, electrical appliances, kid toys, fireworks, gas, fertilizer and types of consumers goods. Inspections are focuing on checking the manufacturing, trading in counterfeit goods activities and infringement of intellectual property rights. HCM City also notes low quality goods, overdue used goods, foods that are not guaranteed of safety and hygiene.

For the controlling of goods at the border, HCM City Customs Department is implementing measures against smuggling and trade fraud before, during and after Tetat gates of the seaport, post office sand international airports in order to effectively prevent violations.

Check the prices listing and selling at listed price. Collaborating with other sectors and inspecting the observance of regulations on the selling price of formula milk for children under 6 years old. Inspecting enterprises, household businesses in the implementation of regulations on goods labeling, product standards publishing, conformity announcing. Strengthening the collaboration of interdisciplinary teams of cities and districts in checking food safety in order to inspect production facilities, processing and trading kinds of food; handling violated facilities on hygiene and food safety, overdue foods trading, and foods that contain prohibited additives or restricted use.

The inspections include organized activities or gangs; companies and individuals which are doing business in the wholesale, retail markets, stores, commercial centers, supermarkets, fairs, warehouses, container storage points, transshipment cargo stations, waterway ports, airports, railway stations, and on river routes.

Enterprises, household business which signed a commitment not to sell smuggled goods; not to produce, storage trafficking, prohibited goods or fake goods which infringing intellectual property rights; the goods do not ensure the quality and does not guarantee food safety. In case of detecting violations, the functional forces will strictly handle in order to stabilize the market, enabling the development of true business enterprises.
