Climate change is becoming more and more extreme, with unpredictable natural disasters, drought and saltwater intrusion are always potential risks. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 2022, the agriculture and rural development industry continues to have many opportunities, but also faces challenges such as the Covid-19 pandemic changes to demand and consumption, requiring an appropriate transformation in organizing production and restructuring distribution channels, connecting supply and demand for agricultural, forestry and fishery products.

The above factors require the whole industry to focus resources, effectively implement the tasks and solutions of the Government's Resolution No. 01/NQ-CP dated January 8, 2022 on essential tasks and solutions for the implementation of the socio-economic development plan and the state budget estimate in 2022.

A representative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that one of the main tasks and solutions of the industry was the synchronous and effective implementation of solutions in association with transforming the growth model, improving productivity. quality, efficiency and competitiveness based on science, technology and innovation.

Specifically, the whole industry should adjust the production structure of agriculture, forestry and fishery. This was reflected in the structural transformation of crops and products in line with market advantages and needs, and adaptation to climate change.

Developing livestock production according to farm-scale, maintaining household farming in the direction of organic and specialization; prioritizing the import of good varieties; producing industrial animal feed to meet domestic demand and partly for export.

For seafood, implementing synchronously and effectively the recommendations of the European Commission (EC) to withdraw the “yellow card” of the EC and towards sustainable and effective marine fisheries development.

For the forestry sector, effectively and synchronously implementing the VPA/PLEGT Agreement, creating favorable conditions for boosting the export of timber and wood products to the EU are the key tasks and solutions.

Notably, from the perspective of developing trade, promoting consumption, and increasing the export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products, a representative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development stated that the Ministry determined to improve quality, increase competitiveness, and access markets for agricultural products; increase the export of agricultural products with advantages and markets; expand the official export market of key products.

Along with that, speeding up the negotiation process to expand export markets to EU countries under the Vietnam-EU FTA (EVFTA) and countries under the Vietnam - Eurasian Economic Union (VN-EAEU FTA), paying attention to the Russian market and other potential markets.

Concerned about the issue of sustainable agricultural product export, in an interview with a number of press agencies, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan said: “I have traveled to many European countries and realized that the export value of Vietnam's agricultural exports increased in recent years but is unsustainable. That is mainly due to the dynamism of enterprises connecting with foreign markets to bring goods aboard, there is no sustainable export strategic plan for each type of market.”

Currently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has consulted with Vietnamese embassies and Trade Offices abroad, and in the immediate future, the EU and China to develop a sustainable agricultural product export scheme, not gathering agricultural products for export in the new crop, but must create a standardized raw material area.

Starting from the local raw material area, farmers standardize the cultivation process and use fertilizers and pesticides in accordance with the requirements of the export market. Enterprises and logistics units must also participate in creating more competitive value.

“In the near future, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will build an association alliance of agricultural product exporters, with the participation of logistics companies for the first time to coordinate to reduce intermediary costs,” the head of the agriculture industry said.

In 2021, the export of agriculture, forestry and fishery products reached a record high of US$48.6 billion, up 14.9% compared to 2020. By 2022, the whole industry will strive to achieve a growth rate of US$2.8 - 2.9% billion; production value growth rate reached 2.9 - 3.0%; total export turnover reached about US$49 billion.
