Air conditioners declared as medium-density fiberboard (MDF)

According to Sai Gon Border Gate Customs Branch of Zone 1, the shipment was imported by Nguyen Tan Import and Export Commodity Logistics (address No. 12A/5, Dong Tan Street, Di An District, Di An Town, Binh Duong province).

The company declared imported goods as fabric rolls and medium-density fiberboard (MDF). After the shipment arrived to Cat Lai Port at the end of 2017, the Sai Gon Border Gate Customs Branch of Zone 1 detected suspicious signs of these four containers and implemented targeted supervision. When the company did not carry out procedures to receive goods, the branch issued a decision for inspection.

The branch coordinated with Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department, Border Guard of Nha Rong Port in inspecting and detecting used air conditioners, loudspeakers and fans under the list of goods banned from import with a value of more than 8 billion VND.

To hide these banned goods, suspects loaded these goods behind fabric rolls and medium-density fiberboard as a declaration in the manifest.

Director has a criminal record

After inspecting the shipment, the Sai Gon Customs Bracnh of Zone 1 expanded the investigation and verification for Nguyen Tan Import and Export Commodity Logistics.

The branch detected many suspicious signs about the company.

The branch verified the business registration address of Nguyen Tan Import and Export Commodity Logistics at No. 12A/5, Dong Tan Street, Di An District, Di An Town, Binh Duong province. The local government said this apartment has no business operation.

The Department of Planning and Investment of Binh Duong Province said it has not received any notification of changing the content of operation profile of the company.

The verification results of the Customs authority for this director showed that Nguyen Thong Tan - director of the company, did not register for temporary or permanent business and did not live at this address.

The police of An Hoa commune, Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai province found that Nguyen Thong Tan, born in 1988, has a permanent residence at 259 Group 6 - Zone 2 - Hamlet 2 - An Hoa Commune - Bien Hoa city - Dong Nai province. Currently, he has left the province.

Notably, director Tan had a criminal record. Specifically, in 2015, he was arrested for illegal possession of drugs and was sanctioned by the People's Court of Go Vap District - Ho Chi Minh City to two years and six months in Thanh Hoa prison.

The branch said that when it detected suspicious goods, the company did not carry out the procedure for this shipment, the branch sent an invitation to the representative of company for inspection but the representative did not come.

Based on the case, the results of the investigation and the seriousness of the case, after consulting from the Ho Chi Minh People's Procuracy, the branch has transferred the case file to the Investigation Agency - Ho Chi Minh City Police for investigating.
