Effective application

Being a fairly typical enterprise in applying high technology to agricultural production, Delco Agriculture High Technology Application Joint Stock Company (DELCO) has been gaining a lot of success, receiving the attention of domestic and international organizations. Currently, DELCO is one of the first smart agricultural models to integrate the IoT of 4.0 technology in the production of clean vegetables and agricultural products.

According to Mr. Le Khanh Manh, General Director of DELCO, applying the IoT helps enterprises control productivity, quality and reduce investment costs by 25%. Accordingly, enterprises use modern sensors and machines to control the quality of each product; they also have transparent information about the entire farming process, customers can search it by scanning the QR codes on the products.

Mr. Le Khanh Manh shared that the role of the IoT was very important, especially for the formation of companies’ production chains later. However, in order to achieve this, they must find ways to apply technology suitable to their products, capabilities, infrastructure and finance. Therefore, the special thing shared by Mr. Manh is that 100% of designing, building farms, installing and developing automatic monitoring and control software for the IoT are implemented by Delco and Vietnamese partners, which help to save costs and accelerate deployment time as well as model scalability.

With the similar direction, D&L Technology Integration and Consulting Joint Stock Company have focused on researching and developing solutions and technologies in the field of information technology. Currently, this enterprise is researching, developing and designing the PAM ecosystem for the fields including environment, library, agriculture, household and smart city based on the IoT platform, cloud computing. For example, in the field of environment, the system will adopt the collection of information on air and water as well as calibration and control of monitoring devices for analysis and evaluation according to the environmental quality standards and publish this useful information to the community.

Mr. Hoang Dung, General Director of D&L said the IoT was a very wide and accessible area with low cost, so it was creating opportunities for businesses, especially small and medium ones to create new and unique, even unprecedented, products and services.

Remove barriers

Although achieving many successes thanks to the application of the IoT into production, Mr. Le Khanh Manh said that in Vietnam, enterprises operating in the software, application technology field had been many but their availability was not high, lack of effort in implementation. In addition, Mr. Ngo Viet Hai, Business Manager of Advanced Technology Joint Stock Company (Advantech), added that the application of many informatics devices, transmission and networking in the IoT in Vietnam was a problem because the legal basis was not clear, making it difficult for businesses to implement the technology.

In addition, all enterprises said that not only IoT application enterprises but also many others were facing difficulties in capital and infrastructure. However, all businesses agree that, if successfully deployed and found the effective application of technology and the IoT, the ability to access capital, land and markets would be higher; because support partners would easily see the sustainability of businesses to "inject capital".

Besides, Mr. Ngo Viet Hai also emphasized that when deploying the IoT applications enterprises could not "go alone” but must have support from partners as well as management agencies.

According to Mr. Hoang Dung, the most important thing is to develop supporting industries, develop factories producing molds and electronic components. In addition, the State should have special support programs for start-up businesses, such as building and replicating the "researching room" model – where people who want to study the IoT can use it for free; the state should also have financial support, support funds, import tax exemption for electronic components, reduce corporate and personal income tax for individuals and businesses in the high-tech sector.

"All policies set out by the State must somehow make implementation faster, more compact, more convenient and access investors and producers in the fastest way, in reality," Mr. Le Khanh Manh said.

Moreover, Mr. Manh also said that when businesses invested in agriculture, attach importance to technological factors equal to agricultural factors, but it must be based on the relevance to businesses. This showed that, in order for enterprises to develop in accordance with the trend of current technology, management agencies and businesses still have much work to do, but all must have mutual support, so that no one is left behind.
