Lang Son: Smuggling and illegal trafficking of poultry returns as a hot issue

According to statistics from July 16 to August 15, 2016, Lang Son Department of Customs arrested and settled six cases of illicit transport of poultry valued at more than 41 million dong.

The details are as follows: one case of trafficking 60 kg of pigeons worth around 6 million dong; three cases of trafficking 2,000 breeding ducks worth nearly 26 million dong; two cases of trafficking 700 breeding chickens worth over 9 million dong.

All six cases were seized by Chi Ma Customs Branch in coordination with Chi Ma border defence. Notably, the owner of all the poultry was not identified. The poultry were seized and forwarded to the Phytosanitary agency for settlement.

Lang Son Department of Customs has seized and handled 14 cases of illegal trafficking of poultry valued at approximately 119 million dong, including 4,500 breeding chickens, 4,200 breeding ducks and 60kg of pigeons.

Lang Son Department assessed the trafficking of poultry and products made of poultry was getting more and more complex and increasing, particularly in the border patrol areas from milestone 1228 to milestone 1239 in the villages of Na Quan and Na Phat of Yen Khoai Commune, Loc Binh District. Mostly smugglers were the foresaid villagers.

They were hired to transport goods from China into Vietnam on the patrolled ways. The goods are gathered and then moved to Loc Binh District. From there, they continue to be transported inland by trucks for sale. Especially, smugglers hired some persons to drive motorbikes and cars for tracking and obstructing functional forces.

In order to prevent the trafficking of poultry and products made of poultry, Lang Son Customs revealed that they directed units to reinforce patrolling and controlling activities and prevent the smuggling of poultry and products made of poultry within their operation areas in an efficient manner.

At the same time, Lang Son Customs would be in close coordination with functional forces such as Border Defence Forces, Police, Market Management Units and local authorities to prevent, seize and strictly treat offenders.
