Major export commodity groups in 2016

VCN - According to General Department of Customs, the export turnover of 10 major commodity groups in 2016 reached nearly $US 126.85 billion, accounting for 71.8% of the country’s total export turnover. Of these, the largest group was telephones and accessories (nearly $US 34.32 billion); followed by textiles (more than $US 23.84 billion), computers, electronic products and accessories (nearly $US 18.96 billion)

Export markets for agricultural products of Vietnam period 2015-2016

Telephones and accessories: The import turnover of telephones and accessories in December, 2016 reached nearly $US 2.69 billion, decreasing by 17.95% compared to the last month. Thereby, the import turnover of this group in 2016 reached nearly $US 34.32 billion, increasing by 13.8% compared to the same period of 2015.

The import markets for telephones from Vietnam in 2016 were: EU market (28 countries) with a turnover of nearly $US 11.24 billion, up by 11.1% over the same period of 2015; the US with a turnover of more than $ US 4.3 billion, up by 55.5%; the United Arab Emirates with a turnover of $US 3.83, down by 14.5%; and the ASEAN market with a turnover of nearly $US 2.27 billion, up by 6.2%.

Textiles: Textile exports in December, 2016 reached nearly $US 2.3 billion, up by 21.1% over the last month. Thereby the export turnover of textiles of 2016 reached more than $US 23.84 billion, up by 4.6% compared to the same period of 2015.

The largest import market for textiles from Vietnam in 2016 was the US with a turnover of more than $US 11.45 billion, up 4.6% compared to the same period of 2015. The following market was the EU (28 countries) with a turnover of more than $US 3.56 billion, up by 2.7%; Japanese market reached more than $US 2.9 billion of turnover, up by 4.2%;

Computers, electronic products & components: The export value of this group in December, 2016 was more than $US 1.86 billion, down by 1.1% against November, 2016. Thereby, the exports of this group in 2016 reached $US 18.96 billion, up by 21.5% over 2015, equivalent to an increase of $US 3.35 billion.

China is the largest import partner of this group of Vietnam in 2016 with $US 4.1 billion, increasing by 47.2%; followed by the EU with $US 3.73 billion, increasing by 16.5%; the US with $US 2.89 billion, increasing by 2.05%; and the Netherlandswith $US 1.75 billion, sharply increasing by 53.5% increase over 2015.

Footwear: Footwear exports by Vietnam in December 2016 reached nearly $US 1.34 billion, up by 9.7%. Thereby making the turnover of this group in 2016 reach $US 13 billion, up by 8.3% compared to 2015.

Footwear exported to the US reached $US 4.48 billion,increasing nearly 10%, and to the EU reached $US 4.22 billion, increasing by 3.51%; to China reached 905 million, up by 20% etc compared to 2015.

Machinery, equipment, tools and other spare parts: Exports of machinery, equipment, tools and other spare parts in December, 2016 reached more than $US 1.03 billion, down by 6.3% over the last month. Thereby, making the whole year’s import turnover of this group reach more than $US 10.14 billion, up by 24.3% over the same period last year.

Machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts from Vietnam in 2016 were mainly exported to: the US with a turnover of nearly $US 2.13 billion, up 27.2%; Japan with a turnover of more than $US 1.56 billion, up by 10.9%; the EU (28 countries) with more than $US1.29 billion, up by 29.4%;

Seafood: seafood exports in December, 2016 was $US 657 million, down by 3.1% over the last month, bringing the whole year export turnover to $ US 7.05 billion, up by 7.4 %, corresponding to an increase of $US 484million over last year.

Seafood products were mainly exported to the US with a turnover of $US 1.44 billion, up by 9.7%; to the EU with a turnover of $US1.2 billion, up by 3.6%; to Japan with a turnover of $US 1.1 billion, up by 6.2%; to China with a turnover of $US 685 million, up by 53%.

Wood and wood products: the exports of this group in December, 2016 reached $US 749 million, up by 18.1% over the last month. Thereby, pushing the export turnover of this group in 2016 to nearly $US 6.97 billion, up 1.1% compared to the same period last year.

Wood and wood products in 2016 were mainly exported to: the US market with a turnover of nearly $US 2.83 billion, up 7% compared to the same period last year; China market with a turnover of more than $US 1.02 billion, up by 4.7%; Japan with turnover of $US 981 million; down by 5.9%; etc

Agricultural products (including product groups: fruits and vegetables, cashew nuts, coffee, tea, pepper and rice): The export turnover of Vietnam's agricultural products in the December, 2016 reached nearly $US 1.1 billion. Thereby making the export turnover of this group in 2016 reach more than $US 12.45 billion, up by 16.2% over the same period last year.

Marketsimporting agricultural products from Vietnam in 2016 were: China market with nearly $US 3.13 billion, up by 50.4% over the same period last year; the EU (28 countries) with more than $US 2.59 billion, up by 16.2%; and the United States with more than $US 1.87 billion, up by 25.2%.

Coal: Coal exports in December 2016 reached 284.000 tons worth $US 37 million, up by 72.5% in volume and 74.1% in value compared to the last month. Thereby, making exports of this group in 2016 reach nearly 1.28 million tons worth $US 141 million; down by 27% in volume and 23.8% in value over the same period of 2015.

The markets importing coal from Vietnam in 2016 such as: Japan with a turnover of 675,000 tons worth$US 65 million; up by 5.4% in volume and down by 7.8% in value; Malaysia market with a turnover of 103,000tons worth $US 17 million; increased by 105.4% in volume and 174.6% in value.
