The shipment was discovered and seized by Tan Son Nhat airport Customs Branch during the inspection of personal language of 4 American male passengers who attended the flights CX767, CI781 and BR395 from the US to Vietnam
The above passengers failed to present written registration for quality inspection as prescribed upon Customs procedures. The shipment’s value was estimated at VND 6.5 billion.

Earlier, by the end of July, 2018, Tan Son Nhat Customs also arrested a shipment of 257 Samsung and iPhone mobile phones smuggled from South Korea with a value of more than VND 1.5 billion.

Deputy Director of Tan Son Nhat airport Customs Branch Tran Ngoc Anh said that there is a high risk of illegal transportation of iPhone after the event that Apple officially launched new iPhone types on 12th September 2018. Therefore, the Customs Branch has deployed many solutions and enhanced human resource to discover and handle violations on smuggling and illegal transportation of mobile phones, and prevent smuggled goods to Vietnam when companies and agents have not officially imported them to Vietnam.

Currently, all violated shipments are seized by Tan Son Nhat airport Customs Branch for pending.
According to the current provisions, imported mobile phones are subject quality inspection before customs clearance. For the case that n addition to belongings for a trip, an entry passenger is permitted to take 01 mobile phone which is exempted from quality inspection but is taxable according to the regulations (due to ithat its Customs value exceeds VND 10,000,000) For the case that an entry passenger takes 2 mobile phones and more with a Customs value of more than VND 20,000,000, in addition to tax payment, the above phones must be inspected on quality at the Telecommunication Department under Minister of Information and Communications. If the passenger failed to present the written registration for quality inspection, he will be fined and forced to re-export the goods out of Vietnam – said Deputy Director of Tan Son Nhat airport Customs Branch. |
