More than US$730 billion in import and export turnover in 2022

VCN – In 2022, Vietnam recorded US$730.21 billion in trade, according to preliminary statistics of the General Department of Customs just announced this afternoon (January 9, 2023).

Specifically, in the 2nd half of December 2022 (from December 16 to 31), the total turnover reached nearly US$28.5 billion, an increase of 3.3% or US$913 million compared to the first half of December 2022. This is an outstanding mark in trade turnover in 2022.

The results achieved in the second half of December brought the country's total import and export turnover in 2022 to US$ 730.21 billion, up 9.1% or US$ 61.2 billion over the same period of 2021.

The import turnover in the second half of December 2022 rose 12.4% to US$15.31 billion compared to the first half of the month.

Commodity groups saw strong growth: machinery, equipment, tools and other spare parts rose 26.3% or US$431 million; computers, electronic products and components rose 16.3% or US$360 million; and textiles and garments rose 12.1% or US$165 million.

Especially the iron and steel products of all kinds rose by 154,000 tons (46%) and US$ 140 million in turnover (62.9%) compared to the first period of December 2022.

In general, in 2022, Vietnam's total export turnover reached US$371.30 billion, up 10.5%, equivalent to US$35.14 billion year-on-year.

Regarding imports, in the second half of December 2022, Vietnam spent US$13.19 billion, down 5.6% (US$775 million) compared to the results in the first half of December.

Groups saw a remarkable decrease, including crude oil with a decrease of US$326 million (66.6%); other machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts with a decrease of US$ 220 million (11.7%); and petrol and oil of all kinds with a decrease of US$205 million (39.3%).

For the whole year of 2022, the country spent US$358.9 billion on imports, up 7.8% (US$ 26.06 billion) year-on-year.

As a result, Vietnam had a trade surplus of US$2.12 billion in the 2nd period of December 2022 and a trade surplus of US$12.4 billion for the whole year 2022.
