In the conference, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Viet Tien asserted that the health sector has been invested in expensive equipment but the management, operation, and maintenance still have many problems. Vietnam also has a number of companies providing medical equipment but the quality still has many issues so most medical material and equipment must be imported.

Pointing out the potential risk factors in using medical equipment of hemodialysis techniques, Mr. Le Thanh Hai, head of the Medical Equipment and Construction Institute, said that the incident would occur if the hemodialysis machine is not maintained or control in accordance with the manufacturer's or international regulations; dialyzer is used repeatedly and has not been tested after washing; making dialysis water by itself; water used for hemodialysis is not standardized.

Therefore, in order to enhance the quality control of equipment in this field, Mr. Hai suggested that the medical clinics need to maintenance, control, and testing in accordance with the manufacturer's regulations. With dialyzer, the re-use must follow the manufacturer's recommendation. For dialysis water, the production base must qualify production conditions and intensive monitoring of water sources for dialysis is needed.

At the conference, Mr. Nguyen Huu Dung, head of the hemodialysis department, Bach Mai Hospital said that Vietnam currently has about 20,000 patients are using hemodialysis treatment. It is expected that by 2030, Vietnam will have 30-40,000 people who will have to use hemodialysis treatment.

According to Mr. Dung, the department of hemodialysis in the medical clinics is the unit using the most medical equipment. Therefore, this is also the place where containing risks from the operation of machines and dialyzer for patients if this work is not concentrated carefully.
