Accordingly, in March 2017 the country imported 11,185 CBU automobiles worth $ US180 million, increasing by 39.3% in volume and 13.9% in value compared to

Thereby, by the end of the first quarter of 2017, the Country imported 26,506 CBU automobiles worth $ US 488 million, increasing by 34.4% in volume but only increasing by 1% in value compared to the same quarter in 2016.

In which, the imported automobiles with less than 9 seats were 16,310 units, rising by 136% and accounting for nearly 62% of the country’s total imported automobiles; the imported trucks were more than 8,800 units, declining by 10.2%; imported automobiles with more than 9 seats were 170 units, declining by 10.2% and other imported automobiles were 1,200 units, declining by 56.1%.

In term of market, the volume of imported automobiles originated from ASEAN countries in the first quarter of 2017 was 14,460 units, up by 67.6% over the same period last year. In which, automobiles imported from Thai Lan were 10,050 units, up by 28.8& and from Indonesia was 4,409 units, meanwhile the imported automobiles in the same period last year were 833 units.

Besides, in the last three months, Vietnam also imported nearly 4,789 CBU automobiles from India, increasing by 4 times.

Thus, the imported automobiles in the only above three markets accounted for 73% of the country’s total imported automobiles in the first quarter of 2017.

Basing on data of the Customs authority, in the first quarter, there were 12 markets providing automobiles for Vietnam. In addition to above 3 large markets, 2 markets which exported a large volume of automobiles to Vietnam were South Korea with 2,964 units and Japan with 1, 053 units.

Thailand continued to remain its position in volume and turnover of imported automobiles (turnover of more than $ US 179,5 million).

Meanwhile, Indonesia was ranked No. 3 in volume, but was ranked No. 2 in turnover (reaching more than $ US 76.5). The market with third largest turnover was South Korea with more than $ US 44.8 million (ranked No. 4 in volume).
