Over four tons of dried tamarind suspected of smuggling

According to An Giang Police, the inter-sectoral anti-smuggling team has coordinated with the local police to inspect "Tam Phuong" fruit barn in Tinh Bien town, Tinh Bien district, An Giang province and discovered suspected smuggled goods.

During the inspection, the working team found 400 boxes, weighing about four tons, of dried tamarind of foreign origin. Mr. Nguyen Minh Tam, the owner of the barn, did not present invoices and documents proving the origin of the goods.

Mr Tam said that he bought these products from an enterprise with an address in Xuan Hoa hamlet, Tinh Bien town, Tinh Bien district, An Giang, and would sell them.

However, through verification by the Working Group, the above enterprise did not sell these tamarinds to Tam. The working group made a record of temporary seizure of the goods and handed it over to the Tinh Bien District Police for further investigation.
