Party Central Committee concludes 13th plenum in Hanoi

The 13th plenum of the 12th Party Central Committee (PCC) came to an end on October 9 in Hanoi following five working days.

Top of the agenda during the conference was the country’s current socio-economic situation, the socio-economic development plan moving ahead to 2021, and personnel work related to the 13th National Party Congress.

The committee also worked out the details in an effort to finalise draft documents for submission to the 13th National Party Congress, whilst also introducing potential candidates for the positions of Minister of Science and Technology and Minister of Health, along with looking at other major issues.

During his closing remarks at the event, Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong called on the Party and State to remain vigilant in the fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In addition, a focus should be placed on achieving policies and measures that restore business and production activities whilst regaining growth momentum.

Party General Secretary Trong also urged relevant authorities to concentrate efforts on the disbursement of public investment capital, mobilising all resources to boost economic development, and providing support to local firms and workers that have been adversely affected by the pandemic.

In line with this policy, domestic businesses and local people must be given favourable conditions in which to develop, the Party Leader said, adding that start-ups and innovation must be given extra incentives.

Furthermore, the top leader also requested that the banking sector settles all bad debts and poorly-performing commercial banks, whilst improving the level of safety and trust among credit organisations.

Touching on the draft political report and draft reports relating to socio-economic development and Party building, he affirmed the necessity of building a strong, pure, and effective political system, in addition to improving the Party’s leadership capacity.

These efforts must build a contingent of bodies at all levels, especially on a strategic level, with sufficient virtue, capacity, and prestige to fulfill their assigned tasks, Party General Secretary Trong said, noting that they will be a decisive factor in national construction, development, and protection.
