PM Phuc underscores continuation of COVID-19 prevention measures

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc states the need for continuation of COVID-19 prevention measures as the number of people testing positive for the COVID-19 is on the rise in many countries across the globe

In his remarks, the Government leader underlined the need to support domestic production and other local business activities, in addition to considering whether or not to permit foreign experts, investors, and skilled workers to enter the country providing that proper medical control measures are applied. Furthermore, this is also a specific issue that many localities nationwide have raised with the Government.

The PM stated that it remains essential to continue promoting national import and export activities, trade, persifying markets, and not allowing goods to get stuck in output.

Due to many Vietnamese nationals based abroad hoping to return home, PM Phuc has asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with other relevant ministries and sectors, to propose reasonable measures to be put in place regarding the organisation of flights, and the implementation of quarantine activities for all new arrivals.

The cabinet leader also called on participants in the meeting to consider whether or not to open services that have subsequently stopped as a result of efforts to halt the spread of the COVID-19, including karaoke bars and discos.

The PM underlined the need to continue to promote the country’s epidemic prevention and control campaign in a proactive manner whilst remaining vigilant amid the context of adapting to a new normal.

According to a report issued by the Ministry of Health, there have been over 7.1 million people infected with the COVID-19 across 215 countries and territories globally, causing over 406,000 deaths in the process. In Southeast Asia, more than 3,100 people have died as a result of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the country has recorded a total of 332 positive COVID-19 cases, although it has now gone 53 consecutive without any cases being transmitted locally. Most notably, 15 out of the 16 patients currently receiving treatment are in a stable health condition.

With regard to the 43-year-old British pilot known as patient 91, the nation’s most severe COVID-19 case, he is showing signs of strong improvements as he is able to sit up, eat, is fully conscious, whilst his lungs have recovered over 60% of their capacity. He is now in the process of practicing breathing without the aid of a ventilation machine.
