Potentials and opportunities for Vietnamese businesses in 2021

In an unprecedented context, Alibaba.com, the global B2B (business-to-business) e-commerce platform of Alibaba Group (China), has marked a dynamic year. In Vietnam, with a series of initiatives to accelerate digital transformation, support Vietnamese SMEs to overcome challenges, develop and reach the global even during the pandemic.
Through Alibaba.com, Vietnamese businesses will be trained on how to set up and operate virtual stores, post products, understand how to advertise with keywords, manage traffic and orders, identify consumer trends, build product introduction videos and make livestreams to reach global buyers despite the disruptions of traditional trade shows and business trips.
"Vietnamese businesses need to promote their strengths in production capacity, high quality products, and competitive prices to capture opportunities to approach global buyers from digital transformation. The e-commerce platform B2B helps businesses take advantage of this inevitable trend and develop business sustainably, easily and effectively. In 2021, we will continue to work with the government and local SMEs to seek opportunities and hold events and seminars to keep businesses up to date with the latest global solutions and trends in e-commerce," said Mr. Roger, General Director of Alibaba.com Vietnam.
After the online seminar with the topic “NEW AND NOW” 2020 Go Export to introduce opportunities that B2B cross-border e-commerce can be brought in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, how to utilize tools and platform solutions such as online trade shows and live broadcasts (livestream), and the "Sprout up" initiative was also introduced by Alibaba.com to support Vietnamese SMEs in three main missions.
Specifically: join more quickly on the Alibaba.com platform to establish a global reach; take advantage of solutions that help drive business growth; services designed to help SMEs develop online commerce capabilities.
Also, in the past year, Alibaba.com announced the launch of the project "100 talented Vietnamese exporters", a long-term initiative to honor outstanding domestic vendors, and provide products to Vietnamese SMEs with incentive programs in training and consultation to improve sales capacity and marketing capabilities, as well as effective business strategy planning.
Continued to support 10,000 SMEs
The year 2020 also marks the cooperation of Alibaba.com with the Department of Trade Promotion, Ministry of Industry and Trade with the aim of increasing SME awareness of digital transformation and accelerating the process by enhancing online capabilities and operational skills through training courses.
The two sides have held a series of workshops for SMEs in five provinces: Hanoi, Lao Cai, Da Nang, Can Tho and Ho Chi Minh City. These are big cities, with many important industrial zones and many potential exporting companies, which have been very excited and eager to participate in learning from global online export experiences.

Mr. Do Tuan Luong, Deputy Director of Kien Thuan General Services Cooperative, said: “Our revenue on Alibaba.com has reached US$1 million. Before joining Alibaba.com, 80% of our revenue came from the domestic market, and 20% from export. After joining Alibaba.com, this rate reversed. Global cross-border transactions through online platforms are the most effective solution to help us overcome the difficulties of Covid-19 period.”
With the pledge to support 10,000 Vietnamese SMEs over the next three years and accelerating digital transformation, by 2021, Alibaba.com will continue to work with local authorities, providing efficient and consistent online services and solutions.
In 2021, Alibaba.com will continue to hold workshops in cooperation with the Department of Trade Promotion, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, expanding to various types of events including seminars, major events and roadshows in industrial zones.
In January and February 2021, Alibaba.com and the Trade Promotion Agency, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue to hold four seminars in four important provinces and industrial cities of Vietnam – namely Vung Tau and Quang Ninh, Quy Nhon and Buon Me Thuot.
