Preventing imported goods which do not guarantee food safety

VCN – The Customs Control and Supervision Department (General Department of Vietnam Customs) has sent a document to request the local customs units to strengthen the management and prevent the import of goods which do not guarantee food safety.

Accordingly, the Customs Control and Supervision Department requested the provincial Customs Departments to direct their Customs Branches to stop clearance of goods shipment that do not complete customs procedures; Coordinate with local plant quarantine authorities to handle information on imported shipments.

For the shipments that completed customs procedures and cargo clearance, it must be reviewed and reported to General Department of Vietnam Customs (through Customs Control and Supervision Department).

Earlier, the Plant Protection Department received a warning from the International Food Safety Authority (INFOSAN) Secretariat for frozen corn product and some other frozen vegetable products that are produced at some production bases in Hungary, which have been infected with Listeria monocytogenes. Thus it has been retrieved from 13/8/2016 to 20/6/2018.

According to the European Food and Feed Safety Alerts (RASFF Portal), some of the items that are in the list of retrieved products, have been imported into the Vietnamese market from Denmark by the company M.Life ( Address in Ho Chi Minh City).

The contract and product information are as follows: Contract (65815; 76690; 85319; 91150; 96374; 101225; 109949); Product information (1000002 Mixed veg.4-way, DAT SCHAUB, 24x450g; 1000510 Sweet corn, DAT SCHAUB, 24x450g; 1000002 Mixed veg.4-way, DAT SCHAUB, 24x450g; 1000002 Mixed veg.4-way, DAT SCHAUB, 24x450g; 1000002 Mixed veg.4-way, DAT SCHAUB, 24x450g; 1000002 Mixed veg.4-way, DAT SCHAUB, 24x450g; 1000002 Mixed veg.4-way, DAT SCHAUB, 24x450g).

In order to prevent the imported goods which do not guarantee food safety, the Plant Protection Department requested the General Department of Vietnam Customs to stop the import of the above infringing products; Review and inform to the Plant Protection Department in case these products have been imported into Vietnam.

The Plant Quarantine Branches shall coordinate with the related authorities in the prevention of importing those products into Vietnam; Review and report to the Plant Protection Department in case these products have been imported into Vietnam.
