Prosecute a case of transporting rhino horn worth more than VND 3 billion

Rhino horn and subjects were seized by competent forces.

The shipment of rhino horn was detected in the process of conducting medical inspection for people moving through the station of Covid-19 prevention by forces under Integrated Control Station of Km15 – Dan Tien Pier.

Through the medical inspection on March 23, a passenger car operated by Pham Kim Thach (residing in Area 7, Hai Yen Ward, Mong Cai City, Quang Ninh) moving from Ha Long to Mong Cai, the working group discovered Tran Van Quyen (born in 1984, residing in Ngoc Son commune, Kien An district, Hai Phong city) as a passenger traveling in a car hidden inside the luggage was 3.155 kg of rhino horn, valued at more than VND 3 billion.

Tran Van Quyen claimed he was hired for transporting all the rhino horns for a Chinese male named Trung from Tu Son town, Bac Ninh to Mong Cai city for VND 2 million. He could not produce papers proving the origin of the goods.

Considering that Quyen broke the law, the Integrated Control Station Km15- Dan Tien Pier cooperated with the Economic Police and Mong Cai City Police Team to make a record of criminal offences, and at the same time hand over all case dossiers, objects and exhibits to Mong Cai City Police for investigation.
