Prosecute criminal case of enterprises “squeezing out” two containers of transit goods

On July 25, the Anti-Smuggling and Investigation Department – General Department of Vietnam Customs handed over the case dossier to Binh Phuoc Police after issuing the decision of prosecuting criminal case of “smuggling” relating to the case of squeezing out two containers of transit goods from Cai Mep port to Cambodia.
According to the case dossier, on July 27, 2017, Minh Tri Viet Trading Investment Service Co., ltd (located on Nguyen Hue street, district 1, HCM City) opened individual transport declaration at Cai Mep Customs Branch – Ba Ria-Vung Tau Customs Department in order to transit two containers of used household appliances and branded new 100% for an enterprise in Cambodia.
Cai Mep Customs Branch conducted physical inspection and identified that goods was as declared thus they handled over to Minh Tri Viet Trading Investment Service Co., Ltd for transporting to Hoa Lu International Border Gate – Binh Phuoc and re-exporting in accordance with regulations.
On July 30, after receiving transit goods for implementing re-export procedure, Hoa Lu Customs Branch – Binh Phuoc Customs Department coordinated with the border checkpoint of Hoa Lu International Border Gate and Customs Enforcement Unit to conduct physical inspection. As a result, the competent force discovered both two containers were empty and did not contain goods.
Therefore, all goods (including both used electronic household appliances – under the list of banned goods) were moved inland but did not transit as stipulated.
After coordinating for expanding investigation and verification, the competent force identified that there were signs of “smuggling”, the Anti-smuggling and Investigation Department issued prosecution decision for criminal case of “smuggling” relating to Minh Tri Viet Trading Investment Service Co., Ltd. Then transfering case dossiers and exhibits as memtioned above to the Police Investigation agency – Binh Phuoc Police for investigation in accordance with their competency.
