Quang Ninh Customs seizes more than 13kgs of synthetic drugs

According to the Quang Ninh Customs statistics, from March to June, 2016, the Department detected and handled 16 cases of drug trafficking. Only in March, the Customs forces discovered and handled 5 cases of drugs and seized more than 2,641kgs of synthetic drugs.

Synthetic drugs are mostly shipped from China to Vietnam, then follow the bus route running on Highway 18 from Mong Cai border gate to the inland. Typically, on 25 May 2016, at the checkpoints of the bus station, the Goods Inspection Team under the Complex Control Station Km15 at Dan Tien dock including the Customs force and Police force inspected a handbag of a passenger named Nguyen Hoai Nam who was on bus number plate 15B-00881, and seized 2 plastic bags of different sizes including: one 20 x 17 cm bag containing white crystals and a 37x25cm sized bag containing brown powder with total weight of about 1,7kgs - cordyceps drugs.

On 21 June, 2016, an inspection group under the Goods Inspection Team under the Complex Control Station Km15 at Dan Tien dock included the Customs force, Tax force and Police force who were carrying out their tasks on checking the bus number plate 14B-00879 running on the route Mong Cai – Tuyen Quang. At the inspection time, the forces discovered a passenger named Nguyen Van Tuan (residing at Xuan Long hamlet, Thach Cam commune, Thach Thanh district, Thanh Hoa) hiding 8 grams of methamphetamine in his bag.

Quang Ninh Customs forecast that in 2017, Mong Cai City in particular, Quang Ninh province in general is one of the major drug transit areas of the country. The key perpetrators implementing the illegal trading and trafficking of drugs across the border are still people often immigrating to China as tourists, employees, free traders and ferrymen with signs of illegal trading and trafficking of drugs across the border, and Vietnamese women who married Chinese men, drug addicts, people infected with HIV and unemployed adults.

The key areas are identified as Mong Cai city; border gate areas, the export points and borderlines at the two minor sides of Bac Phong Sinh border gate; border gate areas, the export points and borderlines at the two minor sides of Hoang Mo border gate, Cai Lan port area, Hon Gon port area and Cam Pha port area.

In order to effectively fight against drug crimes, in 2017, Quang Ninh Customs continues to strengthen Customs control, prevent, detect, arrest and handle the illegal trading and trafficking of narcotics across the border in the Customs operation areas.
