Seize nearly 12 tons of smuggled scraps

VCN - On the morning of 19/8, Customs Enforcement Unit and Vinh Hoi Dong Customs Branch (An Giang Customs Department) were unloading the exhibits of paper scrap for conducting a physical inspection that were seized by 2 units yesterday.

The vehicle and paper scraps were seized.

In the afternoon of August 18/8, after receiving information that an illegal smuggling boat was on the way to cross the border into Vietnam, the Customs Enforcement Unit and Vinh Hoi Dong Customs Branch deployed forces to arrest.

Due to the border area being in the flood water season, the working team decided to divide into many directions of attack in order to catch the subjects.

At about 6:00 PM, the team discovered two boats full of scrap paper in the border area of No.13, Phu Hoi commune, An Phu district, An Giang province. One boat was immediately arrested in the customs operation area, but the other boat sped away towards Vinh Nguon Commune, Chau Doc City. Hence, the working group quickly coordinated with the police for the arrest.

At the time of arrest, Huynh Van Dan and Nguyen Van Ol did not produce any documents proving the legal origin of the scrap they were transporting.

It was estimated that the scrap was about 120 tons. Therefore, the Customs Enforcement Unit and Vinh Hoi Dong Customs Branch are continuing to inspect for verification and clarification in order to handle.
