According to Saigon port area 1 Customs Branch, the shipment included 111 containers of exported wood seized by Customs authority at Cat Lai port at the end of 2019, with a value of about VND29 billion.
On December 16, Saigon port area 1 Customs Branch coordinated with Customs Enforcement Unit – HCM City Customs Department, Southern Anti-smuggling Enforcement Unit – Anti-smuggling and Investigation Customs Department (General Department of Vietnam Customs) to inspect the shipment and discovered the goods were declared incorrectly.
The above shipment opened declarations by Chi Lam Wood Processing Co., Ltd. (Nam Tan Uyen Expanded Industrial Park, Hoi Nghia, Tan Uyen Town, Binh Duong) to implement export procedures to China.
According to the declaration of this enterprise, the exported item was wood pellets, with an export tax rate of 0 percent. The shipment was classified to the yellow channel by the system – checked customs dossiers.
Through the information collection, the Saigon port area 1 Customs Branch detected suspicious signs from the exported wood shipments, so they stopped clearance procedures and transferred it to the physical inspection flow.
As a result, the Saigon port area 1 Customs Branch discovered that the actual export goods did not match the declaration of the enterprise. The goods were sawn timber, with the export tax rate of 25 percent.
Currently, the Saigon port area 1 Customs Branch is completing the dossier for processing.
