Strengthening dialogue with U.S businesses

VCN- On the afternoon, 18th December 2017, the Ministry of Finance had a working session with US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) on Vietnam’s laws and policies with the U.S businesses operating in Vietnam. Deputy Minister of Finance Vu Thi Mai chaired and directed the working session.

Mr. W. Michael Michalak- Vice President of USABC and representatives of businesses such as Facebook, Google, Coca Cola, 3M, and Pepsi participated in the working session.

In the working session, Mr. W. Michalak said that the U.S business community in Vietnam is interested in Vietnam’s laws and policies. In business operations, businesses attach importance to business environment, laws and policies, especially in tax policies to have long-term working plan. Vietnam is amending a series of Tax laws such as revised Law on VAT, revised Law on Special Consumption Tax, revised Law on Corporate Income Tax, revised Law on Personal Income Tax, revised Severance Tax and revised Law on Tax administration. Thereby, the representative of USABC desires a dialogue with the drafting agency to give comments and raise expectations.

The Deputy Minister of Finance Vu Thi Mai affirmed that Vietnam always has fair and equal treatment for every business and does not distinguish between foreign and Vietnam businesses. Vietnam’s Government welcomes businesses investing and doing business in Vietnam, including U.S businesses. Vietnam’s Government will remove difficulties and shortcomings that businesses face to create the most favorable conditions for businesses.

Regarding the plan on revision of the 2 basic Tax laws of Vietnam. Currently, the Ministry of Finance is consulting with the public for their comments. The Ministry of Finance wants to learn from the experiences and good practices of other countries, including the United States.

The Deputy Minister of Finance Vu Thi Mai said that in future, besides organizing the annual dialogues with the countries with high import and export turnovers, such as Japan and South Korea, the Ministry of Finance will also pay attention to the U.S.

Mr. Michael W. Michalak highly appreciated the affirmation by the representative of Ministry of Finance on the equal treatment between businesses. “I am also pleased to hear that there are many opportunities for American businesses and affected people to comment on the contents of the revised tax law in the coming time. USABC will organize dialogue to gather comments of the U.S businesses on this issue”.

In the working session, Deputy Minister of Finance Vu Thi Mai confirmed that the Ministry will listen to opinions of businesses to develop tax law towards facilitation for businesses and an approach with international practices.
