Taking the port as the center of logistics development in Nha Be district
According to the master plan on the development of Vietnam's seaport system in 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, HCM City seaport belongs to group No. 4, in which Nha Be district is planned to include Hiep Phuoc wharf area on Soai Rap river and Nha Be wharf area located on Nha Be river to serve socio-economic development in the South.
Hiep Phuoc wharf area is planned to receive ships of up to 70,000 DWT, Nha Be wharf area is planned to receive ships of up to 45,000 DWT, and passenger ships of up to 60,000 GT. Thus, the direction of seaport development in HCM City will shift the flow of goods out of the central area, and develop a cluster of rear ports connecting Cai Mep, and the Mekong Delta. Simultaneously, develop large-scale ports to receive transshipment flows from neighboring areas.
Thanks to the advantage of geographical location and planned land funds around the port, Hiep Phuoc port cluster has great potential to become an important logistics center in the south of the city, connecting with the Mekong Delta and Cai Mep port cluster, promoting import and export activities of the South, creating breakthrough opportunities for urban economic development in Nha Be district.
This is also the vision of Saigon Newport Corporation (SNP) in developing the potential of Nha Be district into a "satellite city" from the perspective of a leading port and logistics enterprise in Vietnam.
This orientation is fully consistent with HCM City’s logistics industry development plan until 2025, with an orientation to 2030: Nha Be district is planned to have Hiep Phuoc logistics center with a scale of more than 250 hectares, becoming a distribution center for e-commerce and domestic goods.
HCM City's vision also follows the global trend when developing a logistics center, linking logistics activities with port operations to make the most of the potential in the chain.
Tan Cang-Hiep Phuoc - an extension arm for the port cluster
According to Saigon Newport Corporation, at present, Tan Cang Hiep Phuoc port is the only port operating container cargo in Nha Be - Hiep Phuoc area. It is positioned as the best "extension arm" for Cat Lai port cluster and Cai Mep port cluster (Ba Ria - Vung Tau).
With an area of 17 hectares, operating two container berths and four barge berths, the main wharf length is 420m, located on Soai Rap River, it is capable of receiving ships with a tonnage of up to 50,000 DWT.
Tan Cang Hiep Phuoc port receives seven international and one domestic shipping route weekly, which provides optimal advantages in terms of time and cost when bringing container ships to do cargo at the port, such as no restrictions on the unloading time for early departure, free storage of containers; free shipping of containers by barge back and forth between Tan Cang Hiep Phuoc port and Tan Cang - Cat Lai port (TCCL), associated ICD to serve export and import of ships at Tan Cang Hiep Phuoc port; free shipping of empty containers by barge from Cat Lai port to TCHP port for packing and shipping; and 12 hours free operation for refrigerated containers unloading at Tan Cang Hiep Phuoc port to ship at Tan Cang Cat Lai.

Additionally, with seven pairs of buoys on the Soai Rap river to receive ships from 30,000 tons to 40,000 tons, modern equipment and means, the port also operates a number of bulk cargo ships, and general cargo services for the following commodities: rice, seafood, fertilizer, iron and steel, gypsum, cement, and equipment, wind power products with an output of more than 350,000 tons/year for major customers and partners such as Vinafood 1, Phu My Fertilizer, Ninh Binh Fertilizer, Southern Fertilizer, DAP Dinh Vu, Mekong logistics, Hoa Sen steel sheet, Nam Kim steel sheet, and IPC.
Its strategic location - 10km from the center of HCM City, in Hiep Phuoc Industrial Park and near frozen warehouses (Lotte, Alpha, Dory, and Saigon Food factories), and the increase in exports of Vietnam's key products have resonated with development potential of Hiep Phuoc Newport to become a connection point and convenient customs clearance place in the southern key economic region and the Mekong Delta.
Thanks to the increasing demand for sea transportation, Tan Cang Hiep Phuoc port is receiving the attention of major shipping lines such as COSCO, TSL, WANHAI, OOCL, and ONE to exploit stable empty sources, as well as opening new service routes, which will promote the port operation industry and port services in the region.
