On 14/5, Tan Son Nhat International Airport Customs Branch – HCMC Customs Branch said that, the unit has coordinated with other competent force including: C74, PC46; Border police of Tan Son Nhat International Airport; Anti-smuggling and Investigation Department and Customs Enforcement Unit to detected, temporarily arrested a 62-year-old woman entered to Vietnam from Africa carrying more than 4kg ivory, 9 elephant tails, many kinds of claws and especially there are 3 African leopard skins. This is a rare species and in the Red Book so it needs to be protected. The total value is over 2 billion vnd.
This woman has used a sophisticated trick to hide those items in personal luggage and household items in order to escape competent forces’ notice. However, by using professional measures and information collection, Customs authorities have timely detected and prevented the above case.
Currently, Tan Son Nhat International Airport Customs Branch is coordinating with competent authorities to investigate and clarify the lines and violations of the subjects.
Therefore, in one month, Tan Son Nhat International Airport Customs Branch has coordinated with the competent forces to detect 4 cases of illegal transportation of wild animal products which are worth 10 billion vnd.
