Plastic products and Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) films originating from China, Thailand, and Malaysia are subject to the anti-dumping investigation.
This move came after the request and relevant documents sent by the domestic sector on April 26.
Accordingly, the imported plastic products and BOPP films are accused of having been sold at cheap prices in the Vietnamese market, therefore causing considerable damage to the domestic BOPP manufacturing sector.
Following the launch of the enquiry, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) plans to query stakeholders in order to collect relevant information and then assess the damage triggered by the alleged dumping.
Based on preliminary results of the investigation, the MoIT is likely to take temporary anti-dumping measures as a way of preventing the dumping of imported plastic products and BOPP films, and any further losses.
The ministry is to verify any information provided by stakeholders and make reference to them before coming to an official conclusion.
Organizations and inpiduals involved in the import, distribution, and sale of plastic products and BOPP films, are encouraged to provide relevant information to the MoIT in a bid to ensure their legitimate rights and interests.
The ministry is likely to consider and launch the application of anti-dumping taxes within a 90-day period prior to the imposition of preliminary anti-dumping taxes.
Local media reported that Hung Nghiep Formosa Ltd Company and Youl Chon Vina Plastic JSC sent petitions and relevant documents to the MoIT’s Trade Remedies Authority of Vietnam in mid-June, aiming to urge the start of an anti-dumping investigation into BOPP films imported from China, Thailand, and Malaysia.
