Vietnam promotes lychee exports in Singaporean market
|
Dr. Tran Thu Quynh, Vietnamese Trade Counselor in Singapore, notes the Southeast Asian island state is currently importing lychees from markets such as Thailand and Taiwan (China), but the quality of these items remains far lower than those produced within Vietnam.
Despise Singaporean consumers being extremely fond of lychees from Vietnam due their delicious taste, Vietnamese lychees are usually imported into Singapore through Chinese traders with the import volume that comes through official channels remaining limited.
Le Hoang Tai, VIETRADE Deputy Director, underscores the importance of intensifying trade promotion activities relating to Vietnamese lychees in the Singaporean market, stating it serves to boost the connectivity that exists in terms of direct import-export activities between the two countries.
The upcoming online trade conference is therefore set to offer a fantastic opportunity for Bac Giang province, the largest concentrated fruit growing area throughout the north of the country, to promote the export of lychees and seek out Singaporean businesses that are keen to import the fruit, Tai says.
Tran Quang Tan, Director of the Bac Giang Department of Industry and Trade, emphasises that the province is home to 15,000 hectares of lychee cultivation area that falls within VietGAP standards, whilst the growing area under GlobalGAP standards stands at 218 hectares.
Tan outlines how plenty of lychee growing regions have received plantation region codes from the United States, Japan, and China, and confirms that the locality is qualified to export lychees to Singapore and other leading international markets globally.
