The diplomat said Pyongyang and Washington have made certain agreements at the meeting between Vice Chairman of the DPRK Workers’ Party Kim Yong-chol and US President Donald Trump, the talks with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo during Mr. Kim Yong-chol’s visit to the US in mid January, as well as the talks in Stockholm between Deputy Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui and US Special Representative for DPRK Stephen Biegun.
Parties involved have hailed the results of their talks and been optimistic about certain steps forward to be taken.
Regarding the Vietnam-DPRK relations, Thuc said bilateral ties have begun to see encouraging signs, recalling the recent exchange of reciprocal visits by senior officials of the two nations. The denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula and the outcomes of the DPRK-USA summits will create an atmosphere conducive to cooperation and development between Vietnam and the DPRK, Thuc said.
Ambassador Duong Chinh Thuc lived in the DPRK for a long time and considered it his second homeland. He said national reunification is an unshakable aspiration of the Koreans, but first of all they need a lasting peace to primarily focus on socio-economic development.
