why vietnamese textiles industry export figures are different from customs Trị Export turnover value of 4 groups of textile industry at 15-12-2016, unit: "billions of dollars". Chart: T.binh.

Why is there such a large difference? At 21-12-2016, exchanging with Customs reporters, Ms Nguyen Thi Hong Thu, Head clerk of General co-ordination, information and communications Board of Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas ) said: The statistics and estimated figures that Textile industry brought out were based on the statistics of the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

However, the textile industry brought out the figure of total export turnover of the whole textile industry including 4 product groups including: Textile, fiber, yarn; curtain fabric, technical fabric; and textile materials.

Meanwhile, the General Department of Customs separated the statistics for each individual product groups and particularly the groups of textile materials were counted in the same group with materials of leather and footwear.

Therefore, based on the calculation of the textile industry (total of 4 product groups), until 15-12-2016, the total value of exports of this industry reached nearly $US 27.2 billion (according to updated figures the General Department of Vietnam Customs). In particular, textiles reached $US 22.577 billion; fibers, yarns reached $US 2.772 billion; textile raw materials, leather and footwear reached $US 1.427 billion; curtain fabric, engineering fabric was $US 401 million.

In the first half of December of 2016, total turnover of these four product groups reached $US 1.214 billion. If this value was maintained in the second half December, the total value of exports of textile industry in 2016 will be in the range of $US 28.4 billion.

Also related to export activities of textile in 2016, Ms Nguyen Thi Hong Thu said, export growth in 2016 will be only around 5% compared to 2015. The low growth rate of 2016 due to several unfavorable factors such as: General difficulties of the export market, consumption of worldwide textiles; competitive factors from a number of countries producing and exporting textiles with cheap labor in Asia; issues of exchange rate stability...
