On April 29, the General Department of Vietnam Customs (GDVC) announced outstanding results in the first fourth months and tasks for the second quarter of 2022.
Regarding the anti-smuggling work, as the standing office of the Steering Committee 389 of the Ministry of Finance, the GDVC has advised the Ministry to coordinate with ministries and government agencies to expedite the fight against smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods and illegal cross-border transportation of goods; to direct units to strictly take measures to ensure social security and prevention of crime.
The GDVC issued four plans requesting the customs enforcement team to effectively perform customs control in the entire sector, including the plan on executing customs control in 2022, the plan on drug prevention and control for 2021 - 2025 of the Customs sector, the plan on the combat of smuggling, commercial fraud, counterfeit goods, and illegal cross-border transportation of goods during the Lunar New Year, the plan on key tasks in collection and analysis of customs control information in 2022.
The country’s top customs agency issued eight directing and warning documents for banned goods, conditional goods and issues such as strengthening the control of petroleum and coal on the border and sea routes; the fight against smuggling and trade fraud in cigarettes and sugar; control of precursors; warning on the illegal transportation of drugs and prohibited goods via express delivery; warning against taking advantage of independent transport to smuggle and illegally transport goods across borders; and anti-smuggling of counterfeit goods and protection of intellectual property rights.
From December 16, 2021 to April 15, 2022, the Anti-Smuggling and Investigation Department handled 61 cases with the value of infringing goods of about VND1,044 billion and collected about VND1.2 billion.
Notably, the department issued 10 decisions to prosecute criminal cases and six decisions to sanction administrative violations.
