As of the end June 23, the total import and export revenue reached VND188,116 billion, or 59.7% of the estimate and 56.8% of target, growing by 31.64% compared to the same period in 2020, according to Customs statistics.
Although suffering negative effects of the global economic crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic and impacts of trade agreements acceded by Vietnam, the Customs revenue in the first half of 2021 is expected to jump by 28.5% compared to the previous year.
The likely growth is thanks to the increase in import and export turnover of some major goods groups such as iron, steel and common metals at US$5.7billion; completely built up cars at 65.7 million cars; machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts at US$10.65 billion; plastics and auxiliary materials at US$3.9 billion.
The crude oil price rose nearly US$70/barrel, leading to the import value of petroleum products at US$1.45 billion.
The positive signs of import and export turnover have shown the response of the Vietnamese economy amid the pandemic and the recovery signs of the world economy.
It is predicted that the global economy still faces challenges and difficulties in the second half of 2021 due to Covid-19. However, the General Department of Vietnam Customs strives to achieve VND331,000 billion in customs revenue in 2021, or 105% of the estimate and 100% of the desired target.
