At the working session, the two parties discussed Vietnam’s efforts in trade facilitation and implementation of commitments of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement and Europe-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement.
Deputy Director General Mai Xuan Thanh expressed his gratitude to Minister Counsellor of the delegation of the European Union to Vietnam, Carsten Schittek and his team for joining the working session.
The economic-trade relations between Vietnam and the EU have been developing since the EVFTA took effect on August 1, 2020. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic that has seriously impacted Vietnam and the EU, two-way trade has grown, the Deputy Director General said.
The EVFTA plays an important role, contributing to reducing effects of the pandemic. The agreement has also diversified markets for businesses, helping them to achieve growth in the post-pandemic period.
Vietnam Customs has provided many solutions to modernize and simplify customs procedures, improve quality and efficiency of customs enforcement, shorten customs clearance time and facilitate trade, better serving people and the business community.
During the implementation of trade facilitation measures, Vietnam Customs has received suppors from international organizations such as the British Embassy, the World Bank, the International Trade Center (ITC) and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation (GATF), and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Deputy Director General Mai Xuan Thanh hoped to receive comments from the EU to further improve Customs modernization and trade facilitation, remove obstacles to promote trade between Vietnam and the EU.
Minister Counsellor Carsten Schittek highly appreciated the efforts of Vietnam Customs in facilitating customs clearance between Vietnam and the EU.
Vietnam Customs’ solutions aim to improve efficiency of businesses’ operation. In addition, it has made great efforts to implement the signed commitments and attract the EU business community.
Vietnam Customs has strengthened the publicity of the policies and regulations on investment for the EU business community.
He hopes that the EU’s medium-sized enterprises will realize the incentive polices and decide to invest in Vietnam in the near future, Mr. Carsten Schittek said.
