Focus on handling scrap backlog at seaports

Attending the working session, there were representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Border Guard Command, and the Maritime Administration (the Ministry of Transport).
Deputy Director General of Vietnam Customs Mai Xuan Thanh said that the handling of scrap backlog in general, especially scrap backlog at seaports, has been drastically directed by the the Government, Prime Minister, Ministry of Finance and leaders of ministries and sectors.
In order to effectively implement the handling of scrap backlog at seaports, on the basis of agreements with relevant ministries and sectors, the Ministry of Finance leaders signed and promulgated Decision 1324/QD-BTC establishing the Inter-sectoral Working Group on handling scrap backlog at Vietnam’s seaportsled by Deputy Director of General of Vietnam Customs Mai Xuan Thanh.
The Inter-sectoral Working Group’s members are representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Border Guard Command, and the Maritime Administration.
Implementing the content of Decision 1324, Deputy Director General Mai Xuan Thanh said the working group is responsible for performing important tasks such as urging and directing the Council for handling goods backlog at local customs departments to implement inventory, classify and handle scrap backlog at seaports.
The Inter-sectoral Working Group has instructed the Council for handling goods backlog at the local customs departments to organize the auction according to regulations.
In addition, the Head of the Inter-sectoral Working Group is responsible for coordinating and organizing the activities of the Group and it is responsible to the Minister of Finance for the working results.
In addition, members of the Inter-sectoral Working Group is responsible for advising and proposing to the Working Group on issues under the management of each sector to handle problems arising in the handling of thescrap backlog.
At the meeting, Deputy General Director Mai Xuan Thanh asked the members to focus on discussing and proposing specific solutions to advise and submiteffective solutions to the competent authorities to handle this issue.
Currently, scrap backlogare mainly in five seaport areas: Hai Phong, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Dinh and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
