Ho Chi Minh Customs: Striving to exceed VND 108,800 billion of the target

In 2018, Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department has taken many drastic measures to reform procedures, facilitate import and export activities and increase revenue, etc. Especially, in the last month of 2018, Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department requested Customs branches and all its officers to drastically emulate and work on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays to quickly implement Customs clearance as committed with the business community, and excellently accomplished the assigned tasks.
Specifically, Ho Chi Minh Customs Department collected VND 108,367.152 billion, reaching 100.34% of the estimate; detected 1,344 violations valued at VND 777 billion (up 327.9% in value compared to 2017). In particular, the Department issued prosecution decisions for 10 cases and transferred 30 cases to other agencies for prosecution.
Specifically, Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department has successfully implemented the Vietnam Automated System for Seaport Customs Management (VASSCM) at seaports and bonded warehouses (13/13 seaports, 6/6 ICD; 2/2 centralized checkpoints; 9/9 CFS warehouses and 17/17 bonded warehouses).

At the conference, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Tran Vinh Tuyen and Deputy Minister of Do Hoang Anh Tuan, praised and highly appreciated the achievements of Ho Chi Minh City in 2018. The leaders affirmed that the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department’s leaders and officers creatively and drastically performed their duties, made great efforts to overcome difficulties to excellently accomplish the assigned tasks, especially with the State revenues having exceeded the assigned target.
Assigning tasks to Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department in 2019, Deputy Minister of Finance Do Hoang Anh Tuan emphasized that the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department needs to closely follow and effectively implement the Resolution 01 and 02 of the Government that has just been issued at the beginning of 2019. In particular, in Resolution No. 02, the Government assigned the specific task of reforming procedures and facilitating enterprises in the Customs sector. Along with that, Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department needs to concretize the directions of the Prime Minister at the Finance sector’ conference to effectively implement the solutions and striving to successfully complete the tasks of 2019.

Evaluating the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department’s contribution in the development of the City, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Tran Vinh Tuyen said that the budget collection of the city in 2018 was completed but it was very difficult. This result is due to the tireless efforts of both the political system and the business community, including the great contribution of the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department. Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department proactively developed a plan for accompanying with the business community to assist them to develop in 2019.
“We are already in the Top 4 ASEAN for cargo clearance operations, we should not stop there, but strive for greater efficiency; Strive to reduce the goods clearance time to 70 hours for exported goods and 90 hours for imported goods”- Vice Chairman Tran Vinh Tuyen emphasized.

Following the instructions of the leaders, Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department Dinh Ngoc Thang said that the guiding contents of the leaders are very specific, and the Department will concretize them into specific measures for drastic implementation from the beginning of 2019.
“In 2019, Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department is assigned to collect and contribute VND 108,800 billion to the State budget. This is a formidable task that requires the Department to make greater effort to accomplish the assigned target.
At this conference, the leaders awarded the third-class Feat Medal of the President to the two officers, and the Prime Minister's Diploma of Merit to officers who have recorded outstanding achievements in their duty performance; read and awarded the testimonial of the Minister of Finance to Tan San Nhat International Airport Customs Branch.
