Import and export reached a record at Hai Phong Customs during complicated pandemic time

According to Hai Phong Customs Department, in May, total import and export turnover of goods at the unit hit $8.88 billion. This result increased about 5.5% compared to the previous April.

Compared to the same period in 2020, import and export turnover at Hai Phong Customs in May increased sharply by 55.9%.

Export turnover reached more than $4.1 billion, rising by 58% over the same period in 2020 and taxable turnover alone reached $27.83 million, growing by 131.3%.

Import turnover also reached $4.77 billion, up by 54.1% over the same period in 2020, of which taxable turnover reached $1.85 billion, rising by 49.3%.

Some key import groups saw impressive growth such as automobiles, auto spare parts, petroleum, alcohol, iron and steel, cosmetics and devices.

Cars reached $95.93 million, increasing by 151.4%; auto parts and components $99.91 million, growing by 254.4 %; gasoline hit $76.1 million, rising by 154.8%; beer and wine hit $3.73 million, soaring by 931.6%; iron and steel reached $253.06 million, rising by 9.4%; cosmetics reached $0.70 million, increasing by 117%; machinery and equipment reached $1.62 billion, growing by 30.7%.

Import and export activities at Hai Phong Customs increased sharply in May, which was also the peak period of the fourth wave of Covid-19 pandemic in Vietnam.

This showed the work of anti-pandemic and ensuring cargo clearance at Hai Phong Customs Department has made remarkable achievements.

In fact, May saw the largest turnover and the largest revenue collection (over VND 6,000 billion) at Hai Phong Customs Department in the first five months of the year.

Talking to reporters, Chief of Office of Hai Phong Customs Department Vu Anh Tuan said although the pandemic in the locality has been gradually controlled, the leaders of Department and the Steering Committee for Covid-19 prevention and control of the department still requires its units, especially border-gate and outside border-gate customs branches to implement regulations in terms of anti-pandemic work and to ensure cargo clearance.

For customs branches, it is necessary to regularly following the media to capture information about positive cases of Covid-19; quickly review and report to the Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control of the department about the list of customs officials related to F0 and F1 cases or locations with high potential for infection for guidance and direction.

Continuing to implement pandemic response plans appropriate with specific work requirements, the actual situation of the unit (ready in case of deploying isolation at the office or unit) and report to the Steering Committee; at the same time, regularly review, evaluate, adjust and supplement the plan to ensure effectiveness and feasibility in actual implementation.

For officials and employees, absolutely do not post, comment or share unofficial content about the Covid-19 pandemic situation on social networks.

Strictly comply with the daily reporting regime on travel schedules, personal contact history to ensure honesty and accuracy.

All cases of leaving Hai Phong city or leaving the headquarters of Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Thai Binh Customs Branches to other provinces/cities must report and seek permission from the unit leader, the Steering Committee on Covid-19 pandemic prevention of the Department; all cases of failing to obey the regulation will be considered and strictly handled.

Hai Phong Customs Department also prohibits the delivery or receipt of goods purchased and sold online at the agency's headquarters; encourage customs officials and employees to move by stairs; increase the use of applications on the Cloud Office network, contact by phone to report work to reduce direct contact between individuals; only moving out of the working position or move to other divisions and units when necessary.

Each customs official and employee must comply with the 5K guidance of the Ministry of Health (Mask - Disinfection - Distance - Not concentrating - Medical declaration).

On the implementation of anti-pandemic requirements at the unit, Manager of Hung Yen Customs Branch Hoang Ngoc Nhuy said thoroughly grasping the direction of the department's leaders and the Steering Committee for Covid-19 prevention and control of Hai Phong Customs Department, for more than a month, the unit has still retained jobs for customs officials and employees to live and work at the headquarters and implement the pandemic prevention regulations, as well as promote solutions to facilitate and ensure cargo clearance for firms.
