According to the Customs Control and Supervision Department, by 2020, the country had a total of more than 229,000 vehicles on exit and more than 126,000 vehicles on entry, equivalent to the number of vehicles implementing customs procedures through border gates.
However, compared to 2019, the number of means of transport on entry and exit in 2020 witnessed a sudden change.
As for the air route, means of transport on exit decreased 64.3% and on entry decreased 66.6%; most commercial flights and departures were suspended and only used for cargo freight.
For road, the number of means of transport on exit was 68.2% and on entry was 48% compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, the number of means of transport on entry and exit via sea increased significantly. Means of transport on exit reached 121.08% and entry reached 122.7%.
The change in the number of means of transport on exit and entry of Vietnam by each route is due to the influence of the Covid-19 pandemic. Many countries, including Vietnam, have applied suspension of entry and exit, and some border gates were closed, while commercial flights were stopped in order to prevent spread of the virus.
Tightening immigration procedures for means of transport at road border gates, causing the shift from transportation of import and export goods via land to sea route.
